A classic worth learning.

Your first game, made easier.

Roll, select a highlighted stack, then choose where it lands. Legal moves light up; larger move buttons sit below the board for phones and keyboards. You can undo your moves until you finish the turn.

How do you play Backgammon?

Each player has 15 checkers. Move them according to two dice, gather them into your home quarter, then bear them off. A point with two opposing checkers is blocked. A single opposing checker can be hit to the bar; it must re-enter before its owner moves another piece.

Use both dice when possible. When only one of two different dice can be used, use the higher one. Doubles give four moves. You can only bear off when every remaining checker is in your home quarter. The board checks these rules for you.

Can I play Backgammon online with a friend?

Yes. Create a private table and share the invitation. Your friend chooses a nickname, both players press Ready, and the host starts. Each person can use a phone, tablet or computer. The invitation and recovery code reconnect you to the same saved room.

Can I play against the computer or share a device?

Both are available in free computer play. Choose Relaxed or Thoughtful for the computer, or select two on this device. Your unfinished game saves in that browser when storage is available.

How do matches and the doubling cube work?

Free tables play one complete game. With All Access, the host can choose a race to 3, 5 or 7 points. A normal win earns the cube value, a gammon earns twice that and a backgammon three times.

Offer a double before rolling. Your opponent can accept and own the cube, or decline and give you its current value. Only the owner can offer the next double. The first game after a player reaches one point from the target is the Crawford game, when doubling is disabled. Our cube stops at 64. These are game points, with no cash stakes.

What costs money?

Single games, computer opponents and shared-device play are free. Private multi-game matches and game-night series use the host’s All Access: $4.99/month or $29/year USD. Your friend needs no subscription or account. See everything included.
