A This or That game in play: two quick option cards and a private prediction

How to play This or That

  1. Pick a deck. Choose a deck: random for anyone, couples for two, food and travel for a road trip, or the work set for a team.
  2. Choose in secret. Everyone picks A or B on their own phone. Nobody sees a choice until every pick is in.
  3. Predict a friend. Guess what one named player chose for 2 points. Every third round, guess how many people chose A.
  4. Reveal and ask why. The room shows every pick and keeps score. The last round is worth 4 points.

No phones? Read a question aloud, count to three, and everyone points left for A or right for B.

Common questions about This or That

What are this or that questions?

Quick questions with two options, such as “beach or mountains?” or “call or text?”. Everyone picks one, then says why. They work as an icebreaker, a road-trip game or a way to get to know someone, because the answers are fast and nobody can get one wrong.

How do you play This or That?

Read a pair aloud and have everyone answer at once: point left for the first option and right for the second, or call it out on three. To make it a game, pick in secret and predict a friend’s answer. Our free online version scores 2 points for each correct prediction, with a bonus round where you guess how many people chose the first option.

What are good random this or that questions?

Good ones are quick to answer but still say something about a person: “morning person or night owl?”, “board games or video games?”, “quiet night in or big night out?”. The random list above mixes everyday picks, seasons, free time and a quick-fire round.

Are there this or that questions for couples?

Yes: 64 of them, about date nights, home life, romance and travel. Play them as a prediction game: each of you picks in secret and guesses the other’s answer. For longer questions, try would you rather questions for couples.

Can we play This or That online for free?

Yes. Open a free private room for 2–8 people on their own phones, tablets or computers. Guests join with a nickname and never need an account or payment. A free game is six scored rounds from any deck, and two people can pass one phone instead.

What does At Yours Plus add?

A free game is six scored rounds from any deck. A host’s At Yours Plus adds 12- or 24-round games from all 17 decks, a private game-night series and every deck as print-ready cut-out cards, for US$4.99/month or US$29/year. One host covers everyone in the room; guests never pay.

Can I print these?

Yes. The free PDF has 24 this or that cards in A4 and US Letter. Cut along the dashed lines and take turns drawing one. With At Yours Plus, a host can print all four this or that decks in full, ready to cut.
