The free Thanksgiving companion: a sunset farmhouse map with a pumpkin patch, a picture-and-rhyme clue card and big picture-code buttons

The phone companion

  • A sunset farmhouse map where a little turkey with a lantern struts to each stop you find.
  • Tap the picture code on each card to collect it. Wrong codes get a friendly nudge, never a lockout.
  • A thankful moment at every stop, and three hints per clue: a nudge, a strong hint, then the answer.
  • A harvest basket finale: the cloth flies off and the pie rises.
  • No-printer mode, host checklist, answer key and reset.

How to play

  1. The host prints the cards, cuts them out and hides them in the order on the host sheet, while everyone else waits in another room.
  2. Give the family the start card. Its picture and rhyme point to where card 1 is hiding.
  3. Each card you find shows a picture code, a thankful moment and the next clue. Tap the code in the companion, share the moment, then follow the new picture.
  4. Stuck? Take a hint. Each clue has a nudge, a strong hint and the answer.
  5. The last card leads to the table, where the pie or a basket of treats waits under a cloth with its treasure tag.

Every spot is indoors and fits a small apartment, and each clue lists an alternative spot. Keep cards away from the oven, stovetop and knives, especially while dinner is cooking.

Questions before you hide anything

Is the Thanksgiving scavenger hunt really free?

Yes. The whole Harvest Trail, every printable page, the host sheet, the certificate and the phone companion are free. There is no account, payment or app to install.

Can little kids and grown-ups really play together?

Yes, that is the idea. Every card has a big picture and one word for children who can’t read yet, plus a two-line rhyme for readers. The thankful moments work for any age, grandparents included.

Do we need a real pie?

No. The treasure can be the pie you’re serving, a basket of small treats, or a note that says dessert is ready. Put it on the table under a clean kitchen towel with the treasure tag.

How long does it take to set up and play?

Allow about 15 minutes: roughly 5 to print and cut, 10 to hide. Playing usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, longer if the thankful moments turn into stories. These are estimates, not tested averages.

Can we play without a printer?

Yes. Choose “No printer” in the companion. Put a small treat at each spot listed in host mode. The clues and thankful moments appear on the phone, and a grown-up taps to confirm each find.

How many people can play?

The trail suits 2 to 10 family members playing as one team, with one grown-up host. For a bigger gathering, split into two teams and hide a second printed set at the alternative spots.

Can we play it again?

Once everyone knows the hiding places, the surprise is gone. For another round, use the alternative spots listed for every clue or move the treasure. It is not an endless mystery.

What does the phone save?

Progress, hints and your hiding checklist stay in this browser’s storage, so a locked phone or refresh picks up where you were. Nothing is sent to an account. Host mode has a reset.
