Case file or character party: which mystery fits?

Both involve clues. The way your guests take part is different.

At Yours game-night materials

For a shared investigation

A case file gives the group evidence to inspect together. Nobody needs to act a character. Lost Property is nonviolent; The Winter Auction Case includes a fictional death. Read the content note before you choose.

For a hosted cast

A role-play kit assigns each guest private information and an objective. The host coordinates rounds and keeps the solution hidden. Dinner at Eight starts with six core roles; The Missing Masterpiece starts with ten.

Count the core roles first

Optional roles extend a complete core cast. They are not a substitute for a missing core character. Use the host cancellation instructions when the attendance list changes.

Consider what happens after the reveal

A solved story has lost its surprise for that player. It can still be hosted for a fresh group under the appropriate licence, but it is not an endlessly changing mystery.
